Threads of Tradition

Threads of Tradition 新作展演
Threads of Tradition brings Chinese classical dance into conversation with contemporary movement. Across gesture, rhythm, memory and transformation, three works explore how traditions continue to live in the present, and how the body can carry stories across cultures and generations.
《Threads of Tradition》是一场中国古典舞与当代身体语言的对话。三支作品围绕手势、节奏、记忆与转化展开,探讨传统如何在当下延续,以及身体如何承载跨越文化与世代的故事。演出时长约1小时,无中场休息。

01
Her Letters
《她的信》

Inspired by Nüshu, a writing system historically shared among women in China, Her Letters explores the enduring bonds of friendship, sisterhood and shared memory. Through movement, the dancers bring to life the unspoken language between women: the tenderness of companionship, the strength found in mutual understanding, and the quiet courage of standing together through life’s uncertainties. Like letters passed from one woman to another, these connections transcend words, distance and time.

Perhaps, a Reed
《芦苇》

A meditation on resilience, memory and belonging, Perhaps, a Reed draws inspiration from the reeds along the Huai River, where the choreographer’s memories of home take root. The work explores the delicate relationship between stillness and change, fragility and strength, solitude and connection. Like reeds swaying with the wind, the body becomes a vessel for memory: bending, yielding, and finding its way back to stillness without losing its essential nature.

On the Other Side of the Mirage
《海市蜃楼的另一端》

Inspired by the Chinese epic Journey to the West, this work explores the shifting boundaries between right and wrong, illusion and reality, through the lens of perspective and inner conflict. Blending traditional Chinese water sleeves (shui xiu) with contemporary dance, it transforms flowing silk into expressions of power, entanglement and reconciliation.
