SUMMARY:Threads of Tradition
DESCRIPTION:Get tickets \nThreads of Tradition 新作展演 \nThreads of Tradition brings Chinese classical dance into conversation with contemporary movement. Across gesture\, rhythm\, memory and transformation\, three works explore how traditions continue to live in the present\, and how the body can carry stories across cultures and generations. \nTonight’s program 今晚节目\n\n\n01 \nHer Letters\n《她的信》 \n \nInspired by Nüshu\, a writing system historically shared among women in China\, Her Letters explores the enduring bonds of friendship\, sisterhood and shared memory. Through movement\, the dancers bring to life the unspoken language between women: the tenderness of companionship\, the strength found in mutual understanding\, and the quiet courage of standing together through life’s uncertainties. Like letters passed from one woman to another\, these connections transcend words\, distance and time. \n\nPerformers\nJing Li\, Shiwen Li\, Ruotong Linzy Lin\, Rongxin Liu\, Joy Qiu\, Angelica Wang\, Yumeng Xi\, Fan Xu\, Xingyu Zhang\, Xinyu Zhang\nMusic\n“In the past” by Chang Jing · 《清平乐 徽柔 怀吉》 by 孟可\, 吕亮 · 《压制》 by 孟可\, 吕亮 · “Where Winds Meet” by Yida\nPhotography\nStark\n\n\n\n02 \nPerhaps\, a Reed\n《芦苇》 \n \nA meditation on resilience\, memory and belonging\, Perhaps\, a Reed draws inspiration from the reeds along the Huai River\, where the choreographer’s memories of home take root. The work explores the delicate relationship between stillness and change\, fragility and strength\, solitude and connection. Like reeds swaying with the wind\, the body becomes a vessel for memory: bending\, yielding\, and finding its way back to stillness without losing its essential nature. \n\nPerformers\nNoa Kamiya · Peter Mazurowski · Mayu Nakaya · Tianyu Wang · Brooke Zide\nMusic\n“Tea” by Taylor Deupree · 《五鼓天明》 by 尹飞\, 王庶羽\, 陈琳洁 · “Noa” by Xinyi\, Suno · “Duo” by Severi Pyysalo\, Anders Jormin · “Dried Mango” by ibi · “The Whip” by ReMidas · 《琼瑶》 by 方锦龙\, 马久越\nPhotography\nXinyi\n\n\n\n03 \nOn the Other Side of the Mirage\n《海市蜃楼的另一端》 \n \nInspired by the Chinese epic Journey to the West\, this work explores the shifting boundaries between right and wrong\, illusion and reality\, through the lens of perspective and inner conflict. Blending traditional Chinese water sleeves (shui xiu) with contemporary dance\, it transforms flowing silk into expressions of power\, entanglement and reconciliation. \n\nPerformers\nShiwen Li\, Rongxin Liu\, Angelica Wang\, Yumeng Xi\, Fan Xu\, Xingyu Zhang\, Xinyu Zhang\nMusic\n“Nonsense” by 者来女\nPhotography\nRuotong Lin\, Shuang Wu\n\n\n\nDetails 演出信息\n\nChoreography 编舞: Xinyi Zhang\nPresented by 主办: Xinyi Dance Studio\, at Art House Productions\nSupported by 支持: Office of Cultural Affairs\, Jersey City\nTime 时间: Doors 6:30 PM\, show 7:30 PM｜6:30 入场，7:30 开演\nRunning time 时长: About one hour\, no intermission｜约1小时，无中场休息\nTickets 票务: General Admission $20\, Supporter Admission $35｜普通票 20美元，支持者票 35美元\n\nGuest artists 特邀艺术家\nWe are grateful to the guest artists whose experience\, artistry and generosity enrich this evening’s performance. \n\n \nNoa Kamiya\nA New York-based dance artist originally from Tokyo\, Japan.
